Annotation

VisoLabel gives you three ways to label, from fully automatic to fully manual. Most projects mix all three: auto-annotate the easy cases, assist the medium ones, and hand-fix the edge cases.

The annotation toolbar

The toolbar at the top of the canvas switches between tools. From left to right: pan (move around the image), box (draw bounding boxes), polygon (draw shapes by hand), points (place keypoints), and the AI tool for SAM-assisted clicks.

SAM2 assisted annotation

SAM2 turns a click into a polygon. Select a label, then click on an object — SAM2 segments it instantly. Refine the result without redrawing:

  • Left-click to add a point inside the object.
  • Right-click to subtract a region SAM2 grabbed by mistake.
  • Drag a box to constrain the mask to a region.
  • Press Enter to accept the polygon.

Assisted annotation is unlimited on every plan, including free.

SAM3 auto-annotation

SAM3 labels in bulk. Point it at your dataset and it pre-annotates every image, so you only review instead of drawing from scratch.

  1. Open the Auto-annotate panel.
  2. Choose which labels to detect and a confidence threshold.
  3. Run it and let SAM3 process the dataset.
  4. Switch to Review mode and approve, edit, or reject each suggestion.

Tip: start with a higher confidence threshold for clean results, then lower it on a second pass to catch the objects it missed.

Manual annotation

When you want full control, draw by hand:

  • Bounding box — drag a rectangle around the object.
  • Polygon — click vertices around the edge, double-click to close.
  • Drag any vertex or edge to adjust after drawing.

Speed it up with keyboard shortcuts for switching labels, tools, and images without touching the mouse.

Annotating video

Video is annotated frame by frame, with tracking so you don't relabel every frame:

  1. Label an object on the first frame it appears.
  2. Enable Track and VisoLabel follows the object across subsequent frames automatically.
  3. Step through and correct the track wherever it drifts.

The same labels, shortcuts, and tools work identically for images and video.

Review & quality

Before training, do a quick quality pass:

  • Filter the media panel to unlabeled to catch anything you missed.
  • Use Review mode to step through annotations quickly.
  • Flag uncertain items to revisit, and mark finished ones as reviewed.
